'Torrens Title - Tradition and Innovation'

Sir Robert Richard Torrens
This conference will celebrate 150 years since the inception of the Torrens Titling System and will be held in Adelaide South Australia, from Tuesday 28 October to Friday 31 October 2008.

The Torrens Title is a South Australian invention that revolutionised & transformed the method of recording and registering land ownership.
The Torrens Title is named after Sir Robert Richard Torrens, who was credited with the invention and implementation of this unique and efficient system of titling. The Torrens Title System was first established in SA in 1858 and was subsequently used throughout the whole of Australia and New Zealand.

Since 1858 the principle of the Torrens Title system has spread throughout the world and is now utilised in many countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Iran, Canada, & even Madagascar just to name a few.

150 years have now passed and methods may have been modernised but the principle nevertheless remains the same. A single indisputable Certificate of Title.

For these benefits, Australia and the world have much to thank Sir Robert Richard Torrens.
